Nutrition for Glycogen Storage Disease - Baby Foods: Fruit, Vegetables and Cereal

These instructions are for caregivers of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia patients who have glycogen storage disease (GSD).

Patient instructions:

  • Offer your baby a variety of foods from the lists below. Avoid any tomatoes, sweet potatoes and any vegetable packaged or prepared with sugar or milk.

  • Remember to read the ingredient list on all foods to make sure the food is safe for your baby. Learn more about which ingredients to avoid.

Fruits:

Avoid fruits. They contain a lot of fructose, and your baby cannot have fructose.

Vegetables:

Gerber baby foods

  • Carrots

  • Garden vegetables

  • Green beans

  • Mixed Vegetables

  • Peas

  • Squash

Beech Nut baby foods

  • Butternut squash

  • Carrots and Peas

  • Country garden vegetables

  • Garden vegetables

  • Mixed vegetables

  • Tender sweet peas

  • Tender young green beans

  • Tender sweet carrots

Cereals and grains safe for your child:

Gerber cereals

  • Barley cereal

  • Oatmeal cereal

  • Rice cereal

  • Mixed grain cereal

Beech Nut cereals

  • Barley cereal

  • Oatmeal cereal

  • Rice cereal

  • Multigrain cereal

Cereals to avoid:

  • Any cereals, boxed or in a jar, that are mixed with fruit

  • Beech Nut Good Evening cereals

  • Gerber grain and fruit cereals
