Therapeutic Home Visit
A therapeutic home visit is an opportunity for a patient to leave the hospital with their trained caregivers for a few hours. This allows caregivers time to practice and develop the skills necessary to care for the patient at home. Caregivers will receive a 6-hour pass to leave the hospital on a Saturday or Sunday. The patient will still attend their rehabilitation therapy sessions as scheduled on the weekend.
We want to ensure caregivers’ success while away from the hospital. Your child’s nurse and therapist will partner with you to assure that you have completed any required education before the visit. If all the required education is not complete before the day of the visit, the visit will be delayed or rescheduled.
Questions to consider before your visit:
-
Did you pick up your child’s medicines from the pharmacy?
-
Do you know how and when to give the medicines?
-
Do you feel safe moving your child?
-
Are you trained on all their medical equipment?
-
Do you have the proper transportation equipment?
(car seat, booster seat, wheelchair, etc.)
-
Do you have the proper food at home for your child?
If you are unsure about any of these things, speak to your child’s nurse before the visit.
You must meet with your nurse before leaving for the visit. They will review expectations for the visit and ask you to sign the required documents.
You must return to the hospital within 6 hours. If you realize that you are running late, call the unit to speak with your nurse.
