Pelvic Floor: ILU Abdominal Massage
These instructions for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) caregivers describe how to perform stomach massage to improve stomach pain and digestion for their child.
Patient instructions:
This massage is used for constipation, loose bowels, and stomach pain. It helps the food move through your child's gut. Complete this 1 time each day.

Complete clockwise circles with two fingers about 1-2 inches deep.

Start on the left side underneath the ribs.

Move down towards the hip bone.

This forms the letter "I."

Complete clockwise circles starting above the right hip.

Move up towards the top of the right side of the stomach.

Next, go across the stomach to the left side.

Finish by going down towards the left hip.

This forms the letter "U."

Tips:
-
Do not massage directly over a G-tube or stoma.

Use music or a relaxing voice to help soothe your child.

You may use lotion or oil.
