Transfers: Up and Down a Ramp in Wheelchair

These instructions for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) caregivers describe how to safely move a wheelchair up and down a ramp.

Patient instructions:

• Fasten the seat belt securely.

• Rest hands on lap, away from the wheels.

• Place feet securely on the footrests.

Up the ramp

Push the wheelchair up the ramp while using the handles.

Down the ramp

Back the wheelchair down the ramp while using the handles with your child facing away from you.
